The wooded stretch of the Dove below Low Mill is thick with wild garlic from late April, and the smell gives it away long before you see it.
Sorrel comes a little later in the damp meadow edges, sharp and lemony, and the elder is usually in flower by the first week of June.
Take only what you will use, never dig up roots, and keep well clear of anything growing at the water's edge where stock have been.
